REBUILT: Where a company
simply REPAIRS a part so it can be put back in service is rebuilding, not remanufacturing.
REMANUFACTURED: Where a
company MANUFACTURES a part into a NEW product.
Per the Federal Trade Commission
Re-manufacturing is the process of restoring
products to "like-new" condition. For an automotive product to be considered
"re-manufactured", it must be dismantled; all internal and
external parts must be cleaned, and made free from rust & corrosion; all
impaired, defective or substantially worn parts must be restored to
a "sound" condition or replaced with new parts; all missing parts must be replaced
with new parts; and all necessary operations
must be performed to put the re-manufactured product in "sound", working
condition. Once this re-assembly process is complete, reliability tests
are performed to ensure the product performs "as - good - as - new."
